About Capella House

The Harbor’s Living Room (1899–1910s)

Built in 1899 by Gamle Carlsberg and designed by Thorvald Bindesbøll, Capella was created as more than a building — it was a place to meet, eat, argue, celebrate, and head back to work with a smile. Dockworkers and sailors knew it as their local restaurant and gathering spot at the gates of Copenhagen’s Freeport.

What lives on today: the generous arches, the warmth of brick, and a house that’s always been for people before prestige.

The People’s Canteen (1930s–1950s)

In 2025, Capella House began a new chapter. We restored, reimagined, and reactivated this storied building - not as a monument, but as a living, breathing workspace. Here, history and modernity coexist. The gentle arch of a window, the weight of a wood beam, the whispers of past conversations - all frame the dialogues yet to come.

Today, Capella House is a curated coworking community for startups, creatives, scale-ups, and inspired individuals. Every room, corner, and shared space is designed to balance function and soul.

The Mega Records Years (late 1980s–2000s)

As the harbor modernised, Capella House also tuned into a new rhythm. For a period in the late 80s and 90s the building hosted Mega Records — the independent Copenhagen label that helped push Scandinavian pop onto the global stage. Meetings turned into listening sessions; sample CDs and promo posters stacked up; deals were cut that travelled far beyond the Freeport. Among the artists the label propelled was Ace of Base, whose breakout success carried the sound of the Nordics around the world.

Capella House, Now

We’re a curated coworking community for startups, creatives, scale-ups, and independent professionals. The rooms, corners, and shared spaces are designed to balance function and soul: the past gives character; the present gets the tools. Come for a desk - stay for the conversations that buildings like this tend to start.
